World’s Finest #260 (December 1979) VG $5.70
I made a mistake in purchasing World’s Finest #260. Not only does Hawkgirl not appear on the cover nor between the covers, there is not a Hawkman story in this issue. I should learn to pay a bit more attention to the cover of the book that I am buying. In this issue instead of the regular lineup of six superheroes, the subtitle reads “five fearless superheroes” and instead of Green Arrow and Hawkman, The Atom appears in a story. During this period World’s Finest Comics was going through an internal editorial shake-up, DC suits thought sales were off and were planning on reverting WFC to a monthly 40-cent comic book instead of a bimonthly dollar comic. However: it was determined that the title was selling better than previously thought.
From the solicitation: 68-page giant. Superman and Batman in “The Four Billion Superman of Earth” (script by Denny O’Neil, pencils by Rich Buckler, inks by Dick Giordano), Atom in “A Tight Squeeze for the Tiny Titan” (script by Bob Rozakis, pencils by Juan Ortiz, inks by Vince Colletta), Black Lightning in “Lure of the Magnetic Menace” (script by O’Neil, pencils by Mike Nasser, inks by Colletta), and Captain Marvel in “There Goes the Neighborhood” (script by E. Nelson Bridwell, pencils by Don Newton, inks by Dave Hunt). The Flash stars in a one-page Hostess ad, “The Stony-Eyed Medusa.” Buckler cover pencils, Giordano cover inks. Cover price $1.00.
