Hawkgirl/Covergirl Collection #99

Justice League of America #19 (May 2008) FN $2.00

Here is an update of the Hawkgirl/Covergirl Collection. I collect comic books and only ones with Hawkgirl on the cover. To date, 216 books have been collected. Presented for your approval is one of two issues that I recently acquired and that were published a little over a decade-ago – both of which are from the award-winning series Justice League of America Vol. II (2006-2011).

Cover by Ed Benes

On the cover of this one we see the Justice League of America consisting of Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Black Lightning, Black Canary, Superman, Vixen, Batman, Red Arrow, and Hawkgirl. In this story, they travel to a prison planet in the Cygnus star system, where a lot of crazy stuff happens, and we see, once again, Kendra “Hawkgirl” Saunders and Roy “Speedy” Harper fighting like an old married couple.

Artists Ed Benes & Sandra Hope

Yet the one thing that really caught my eye in this issue is an advertisement that appeared in the middle of the book. It was an ad for the 2008 New York Comic Con, that had instead of showing Wonder Woman as the usual third member of the holy triumvirate, featured Hawkgirl along with the Batman and Superman.

From the solicitation: Written by Alan Burnett Art by Ed Benes & Sandra Hope Cover by Benes Don’t miss the final chapter of ‘Salvation,’ as the JLA turn themselves over to the U.S. government to be sent to prison off-world! What old foe will they have to rely on to save themselves from planet hell? 32 pg, FC Cover price $2.99. Grade: Fine
