Here is an update of the Hawkgirl/Covergirl Collection. I collect comic books and only ones with Hawkgirl on the cover (or some from the 1970s where she’s on the inside). This time around, I purchased four books from the bronze age of comic books, none of which have Hawkgirl posed on the cover. She does however appear in a story in each of the books.
World’s Finest #268 (May 1981) VG 4.0 $4.49
The fourth book is World’s Finest #268 (May 1981). This was one of the Dollar Comics format. Dollar comics was a line of DC Comics comic book publications issue from 1977 to 1983. There were several titles including World’s Finest Comics. Dollar comics cost one dollar and had 64 advertising-free pages. World’s Finest Comics always contained a Batman/Superman story along with two or three backup features. The backup stories featured different heroes such as Green Arrow, Vigilante, Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Adam Strange, Black Lightning, and others including Hawkman and Hawkgirl who appeared in about two dozen issues of the series in the late 70s and early 1980s.
World’s Finest #268 contains a story titled “Your City or Your Life”. In this story featuring both of the Hawks, Hawkman battles the evil Lord Insectus aboard their Thanagarian star cruiser. In one scene, Hawkgirl suddenly appears on board the ship and relates an embarrassing incident in which she led the “National Guard” in a fight against an army of “Bee-men” who turned out to be ordinary bumblebees.
